Thanks Nuffanng for the free movie ticket!! :-)

A giant wave, and then another giant wave of emotion.

Nine years after the Indian Ocean tsunami which claimed 230,000 lives, a new film depicts the trauma and devastation left in its wake.
Based on a true story, The Impossible focuses on a vacationing family which is caught up in the chaos after the mammoth wave hits and got separated in the tumultuous floods. Will they survive? Will they be reunited?
SUMMARY:

A powerful story based on one family’s survival of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, The Impossible stars Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor and is directed by J.A. Bayona (THE ORPHANAGE). Maria (Naomi Watts), Henry (Ewan McGregor) and their three sons begin their winter vacation in Thailand, looking forward to a few days in tropical paradise. But on the morning of December 26th, as the family relaxes around the pool after their Christmas festivities the night before, a terrifying roar rises up from the centre of the earth. As Maria freezes in fear, a huge wall of black water races across the hotel grounds toward her.
Separated in an instant and seriously injured, they struggle to survive and to reunite in a remarkable true story of perseverance, love and unshakable faith in each other and in the thousands of strangers who are also victims of the catastrophe.
It’s excruciating to imagine a family being violently separated during a cataclysmic event, and almost as difficult to fathom how they could find their way back together.
The Impossible embraces both of those emotionally pitched scenarios, and its title also might reflect the momentous task of approximating the calamity for the screen.
